How much does the interior painting of a room cost?
“How much does it cost to paint an interior room?” This is one of the most common questions we receive. If you have never worked with a paint contractor before, you may have no idea what to expect. We hope we can solve those questions for you.
Here are a few guidelines that will help you budget for your next interior painting project in the Colorado Springs area.
Average Cost to Paint Interior Rooms
Getting average costs for painting services has many variables going into the price per room. We will share what an average room will cost if you elect to use us as your interior painters. One of the most significant cost differences is the type of paint we use and paint preparation we do.
Painting a Kitchen
Kitchens take a lot of labor time and little paint. Several factors go into pricing a kitchen project. Kitchen walls and ceilings tend to have grease, water, and smoke damage from years of crafting the perfect dinner. Unfortunately, these create problems when we attempt to paint over them. Grease needs to be cleaned before we apply our water-based paint because oil and water don’t mix well. We need to take time cleaning surfaces with a proper degreaser before we paint. Smoke damage sometimes needs to be sealed with specific primers to seal the smell or discoloring. The last thing we want is discoloration to bleed through the new paint colors.
Our average kitchen painting project tends to be 18’ long by 12’ wide with 9’ ceilings. An average kitchen this size costs between $450-$800. Kitchens and bathrooms tend to take quite a bit of labor time due to cleaning and covering light fixtures, cabinets. They also tend to be labor intensive due to the time it takes brush around cabinets, doors, and lights. We also highly recommend using interior paint that’s very durable and washable like Sherwin-Williams Duration for walls and ceilings.
Painting a Bathroom
Bathrooms, like kitchens, take more labor hours then you might think. While these rooms don’t use much paint, they usually take more time to paint then a bedroom does. Brushing around toilets, vanity, showers, bathtubs, and baseboards take time especially since it’s a little cramped to move around in. Small bathrooms for walls and ceilings may cost between $200-$400 while large bathrooms, like master bathrooms, cost upwards of $1,000. We recommend using interior paint that inhibits the growth of mold and mildew. We are giving away one free small bathroom during the month of January 2019, check out the contest here.
Painting a Bedroom
Let’s consider a basic bedroom that’s 12’ wide by 12’ long with ceilings that are a standard 8’ tall.
Our cost for painting the walls and ceiling will be between $450-$650. This includes labor, paint, materials, and basic hole filling/patching. We take time to cover all floor surfaces, mask baseboards and furniture. We even vacuum your entire room before we declare your bedroom completed.
Adding baseboards, doors, trim, and closets will increase the price of painting the bedroom significantly. Raising the grade of paint will also increase the cost of painting.
Painting a Living Room/Dining Room
Living rooms and dining rooms are one of the most popular places we paint. As with all of our interior painting projects we take care to mask and cover floors, baseboards, and furniture. An average living room is 22’ by 16’ with 9’ ceilings. These rooms usually cost between $750-$1000. This price includes all labor, paint, and supplies.
