Ever wonder how an interior painting estimate works? Look no further! We want you to know how our process works so you can prepare for the appointment. Our goal is to be as efficient as possible with your time. Please know that our estimates typically last thirty minutes to an hour.

Pro Tip: Call a few different contractors and schedule estimates. We typically recommend that you get bids from three different contractors. This aids in narrowing down who you want to work with and a few different price options. (Cheaper doesn’t always mean better and vice versa).
Before The Interior Painting Estimate
Want some information before contacting a professional? Here’s some handy info
Decide what areas you want to paint in your home. Is it just a few walls or full interior house repaint? Ceilings, walls, trim, and doors are all items you should think about painting. Also, start narrowing down the colors you might end up choosing. Consider how certain colors will look next to your trim, doors, and furniture.
The Estimate
We will meet you on time at your home. The first ten to fifteen minutes are spent getting to know you. We like painting, but we also love meeting new people. Some of the questions we ask are “Why are you deciding to repaint?” or “Are you planning on selling soon or staying for five plus years?” These types of questions help us work together and pick the best possible plan for your house.
Next, we will ask about color and paint options. We want to get a basic feel for what kind of color change you are wanting. Typically in-depth color consultations are scheduled apart from the initial estimate. Though we certainly don’t mind providing some ideas. We will also ask what type of paint you want on the walls. Our recommended brands are from Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore due to their quality and durability. We also inquire about which qualities you need in your paint; they can range from wash-ability to odor reducing.
Walk Through
The walkthrough is your time to show us what you are looking to accomplish. Will the walls be the only thing painted? Or is this a full package repaint with ceilings, doors, walls, and trim?
We want to walk through each area that needs painting. The estimator will look for surface flaws, hardware that will need removal, and other potential complications. After the initial walkthrough, the estimator will need to go back through and measure all the areas out. You are more than welcome to join us for this part and tell us a few jokes while we measure. Some measurements we typically collect are the length and width of a room, the height of the ceiling, and total linear footage of trim. These measurements are entered into our electronic estimate software.
Wrap Up
Typically, a bid is provided at the end of the interior painting estimate. This way we can explain some of the numbers and the price to you. But sometimes a few more calculations are needed so we can provide you with the most accurate estimate possible. If that happens, the bid will be sent via email a little later. That’s it! We will part ways, and you can get back to us on your decision. We look forward to working with you on your project!
