On the surface, what do you see? An earth-toned home, located comfortably on a large lot just east of Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs, and the Rocky Mountain foothills, right? The home seems to fit, it seems in place, “at home.” But from the owner’s perspective, this was the problem. The color in these photos was original, chosen by a builder that may have more financial considerations on his or her mind than aesthetic ones—and might be inclined to standardize and repeat as much as possible. The house doesn’t stand out. It’s the same as the landscaping around it, and come autumn, it’s the same color as the surrounding prairie: brown and dry and burnt.

The other problem here is age and wear. Built in 2011, it’s endured almost a decade under the brutal Colorado sun, and relentless wind and temperature fluctuations common on the plains. Look more closely and you see fading, water staining, and a blotchiness and dinginess that only comes from wear. The end result here, after a few days effort on our part, is a home that stands out, looks more custom and higher quality, and just plain new. These were the stated goals of the home’s owners, and we’re confident they were achieved. In many respects the home looks more classy. Exterior house painting in Colorado Springs can be tricky, stucco in particular. Exteriors here endure a lot, and stucco takes a bit of extra care to do right, and to paint evenly. The result though, with due care, is an exterior surface that can stand up to the elements, especially the sun and wind, snow and hail endemic just east of Colorado Springs.
